The ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Nursery FAQs

What age can my child start at The ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Nursery?

The ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Nursery offers full day, year-round nursery provision to children aged six months to four years. Discoverers, Explorers and Adventurers are housed in Little Thorns, our purpose-built nursery, completed in September 2023. What are the opening times for The ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Nursery?

The ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Nursery is open for adventure from 7.15am to 6.00pm, 50 weeks of the year.

Do you offer term-time provision as well as year-round provision?

Yes! Upon Registration, families may choose between 50 weeks of provision a year and term-time provision. There are three terms in a year and they are delivered in line with ºìÐÓÊÓƵ terms, dates for which can be found here.

What sessions does The ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Nursery offer?

The ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Nursery offers a wide range of sessions to meet the differing needs of each family. The following sessions are available:

Early Birds 7.15am to 8.00am
Morning Session 8.00am to 1.00pm
Afternoon Session                        1.00pm to 6.00pm
Full Day 8.00am to 6.00pm
School Day 8.00am to 4.15pm

What is the minimum number of session required?

We ask that children at The ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Nursery to do a minimum of four sessions a week. This can be any combination of Full Days, School Days, Mornings and Afternoon sessions. A 'Full Day' and a 'School Day' both count as two sessions.

Do you offer school length days at The ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Nursery?

We understand that some families may wish to pick their nursery aged children up at the same time as their older siblings and offer the flexibility of a 'School Day' option from 8.00am to 4.15pm.

When is The ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Nursery closed?

The ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Nursery is closed:

  • bank holidays
  • nine days each year for essential maintenance, typically four days over the festive period and four days over Easter
  • in order to get the entire staff body together, three staff INSET training days, typically one per school term, a half-day in December when the School breaks up for the festive period and a half-day in July at the end of the school year.

Closure dates are published a year in advance and are available here.

How will I know what my child has been up to during the day?

Our partnership with you as parents is essential, as we aim to create a wider family structure for your child. At the end of each day, you’ll be met by your key person and they will run you through all the activities and exciting developments of the day.

Through an app available on your smartphone, we will provide updates on events in your child’s day, such as when their nappy was changed, what they’ve eaten and their nap times. We’ll also post pictures and videos regularly to your news feed so that your whole family can see what they’ve been up to!

We are also able to share your child’s learning journal, our observations of their wellbeing, learning and development through the different experiences they are having, and link these to the early years foundation stage so that you can see and understand the progress your child is making and the next steps they are working towards.

"I am particularly pleased with the communication and updates provided through the Famly app. It has been a valuable tool for us to stay connected with my son's daily activities and progress. This transparency has been reassuring and greatly appreciated."

How do you settle children into the Nursery?

We understand that starting nursery can be an emotional time for parents as well as children, and want to give you reassurance and peace of mind that your child is safe, well cared for and loved.

Every child settles into nursery differently. Among our team, we have decades of experience in making it as calm and enjoyable as possible, with a special settling-in scheme to make it a little easier.

"We have nothing but praise for you and your whole team. My son has settled so well and we really appreciate how understanding everyone was during the first week of wobbles."

Current parent

We warmly welcome you to your child's first settling-in session, so you can be with them while they get used to their new surroundings. The session will be up to an hour long and you'll meet your child's key person, see how they interact with them and the rest of the team, as well as the other children in the room.

Our partnership with you as parents is essential, as we aim to create a wider family structure for your child. During the first session, your child's key person will be eager to get to know as much about your child as possible: their individual routines, the people who are special to them, their likes and dislikes, and any other important information such as their special comforter and how they like to be comforted. We will always tailor activities to suit your child's interests, and your child's key person will be keen to find out all about these, as well as their favourite stories.

Following this, your child will have a series of around four free short settling-in sessions at different times of the day, ranging from one to two hours. Each time, you'll be leaving your child for slightly longer as they build their confidence. These sessions allow your child to bond and play with their key person and other members of the team and will be carfully planned around your own committments.

We are more than happy to offer advice and guidance at any point during this process. If your child hasn't settled after these four sessions, we will work in partnership with you to put a plan in place to ensure they do.

Do you offer Funded Early Education?

ºìÐÓÊÓƵ and Nursery offer up to fifteen hours of funded early education per week, for up to 38 weeks a year, for three- and four-year-old children, only. This funding is a universal offer and is available to all children from the term after their third birthday. Children can continue to receive this funding in Reception at ºìÐÓÊÓƵ, until they reach statutory school age, which is the term after their fifth birthday.

I understand The ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Nursery is oversubscribed, how do you allocate places?

The ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Nursery is oversubscribed and places are offered in accordance with our Admissions Policy. Children registered more than eight months ahead of entry will be added to a waiting list. Approximately eight months before entry, places are allcoated and families will be informed if a place is available for their child. The allocation of Nursery places considers a number of factors including: whether older siblings currently attend ºìÐÓÊÓƵ, date of registration, desired entry date, and sessions required.

For those families who are planning for their children to progress into Reception at The ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Schoo, subject to availability, we can offer a "fast-track" option of an immediate offer of a place in our Nursery upon payment of an additional Reception Deposit of £1,000. The Reception Deposit is credited against the first term's fees for Reception.

Offers of places are confirmed with a £500 Acceptance Deposit, which is refunded when your child leaves ºìÐÓÊÓƵ.
