Music
Music is carried in the heart of every child; it is our job to unlock it. We provide an outlet for emotion and a tool for communication that enables children to fully experience life. Our musicians not only practise teamwork but also hone their confidence to stand up on their own and be different. We prepare children for a bright future, learning to give things a go, to persevere and to reflect on the next steps with recognition of the courage and toil required to succeed. We value choice and encourage every child to engage at their level, searching to find the right instrument at the right time.
In a snapshot we enjoy musical games in the Rainbow nursery, explore the instruments of the orchestra in Year 3, rehearse weekly as a class ensemble from Year 4 and compose film music and pop songs in the Upper School. We embrace cross curricular links through study of musical history and world music.
For those wanting more, we offer a mini string players scheme from the Ark, shared lessons from Year 1 and individual music lessons from Year 2 leading to a wealth of opportunities with something for everyone. Your child will have the opportunity to choose between the six choirs, at least five different instrumental ensembles, six steel bands and a number of guitar ensembles. We regularly share our music forging links with the local community.
