Set in its own self-contained area with two playgrounds, the Lower School offers a stimulating and exciting education for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children, in a homely, supportive and friendly environment. Children race to their classrooms each morning, keen to greet their teacher, ready to start a day packed full of a wealth of creative possibilities and challenges. Through a broad range of activities, we nurture each child’s natural curiosity and critical thinking, developing confidence and character, and with it, independence and an ability for each child to think for themselves. Small class sizes of up to twenty children enable our teachers to quickly form close relationships with children and individualise their learning to allow them to progress at their own pace, whilst receiving the challenge and guidance they need.
Our enriched, hands-on curriculum provides an exciting and fun relationship with learning. Literacy and Maths are taught each morning, providing a strong base on which to build reading, spelling, writing and mathematical skills. Importantly, each child reads every day with an adult. Children are encouraged to develop their independent learning skills and general knowledge through a topic based wider curriculum and are inspired by specialist teachers for French, Music, Forest School, Swimming and PE, as well as Games lessons in the sport of the season. Each child has a timetabled weekly Computing lesson. The curriculum is further enriched through many real experiences, including visiting theatre workshops, project and topic days or trips to local farms and museums!
Independence and self-confidence are encouraged through a busy calendar of events such as Harvest and Easter Assemblies, Nativity Plays, Grandparents’ Day and Sports Day.
