This week we welcomed back senior Old Hawthornians from the 1940s – 1960s, and their partners, most of whom started their school life at Gatton Point.
The guest of honour was Gillian Penny, daughter of founder Dudley Bull. Gillian was a presence at ºìÐÓÊÓƵ for some sixty years, and with both her parents busy running the School, has fond memories of her childhood at Gatton Point. After attending Edinburgh University, she returned with her husband to The ºìÐÓÊÓƵ in 1963 and held the position of Housekeeper, managing the catering and domestic staff that supported the boarding school with “unruffled efficiency”. In 1969 she became School Secretary, and for the following 26 years was always a fount of knowledge and experience, with a capacity for hard work and a deep affection for the School.
Three current pupils delighted the Old Hawthornians with musical performances in the Front Hall and Adrian Floyd hosted the gathering. The Macleay Room was filled with lively conversation over lunch, and some wonderful photographs were passed around, evoking many memories.
If you attended The ºìÐÓÊÓƵ at Gatton Point, or are in contact with anyone who did, please do get in touch with our OH Administrative Secretary, , so that we can ensure we have your up-to-date details to keep you informed about future events.
