Pupils at The ºìÐÓÊÓƵ are encouraged to become active citizens and understand how they are empowered to change the world. As part of the PHSEE programme pupils research challenging issues locally, nationally and globally, debate problems and plan and run campaigns to address these issues.
This year the children’s considerable activity was recognised by the WE Movement1 when one of our pupils was invited to talk on stage at the SSE Arena, Wembley about the campaigns that had been undertaken. Flynn in Year 5 gave a flawless presentation in front of 12,500 teachers and children from all over the UK. HRH Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and Julia Gillard (former PM of Australia) were amongst other speakers at the event. Twenty five other ºìÐÓÊÓƵ pupils were delighted to be VIP guest members of the audience as a reward for leading campaigns within school.
As well as running campaigns that contributed to the local community, such as collecting over a tonne of food for local foodbanks this winter, this year pupils have also raised over £3,500 to sponsor a community in Kenya. Using the money raised, community members are given the tools and training to take income-generating opportunities into their own hands, giving them the means to break the cycle of poverty.
We look forward to the next campaign, WE Walk for Water, taking place on Friday 3rd May.

1 The WE Movement is a not for profit organisation that supports active citizenship in schools by providing free educational resources for teachers and a calendar of action campaign ideas.
