Mon 24 Mar 2025

The 2025 GB Schools Biathlon Finals proved to be an exhilarating weekend for our talented ºìÐÓÊÓƵ athletes, who competed at the prestigious event hosted by Pentathlon GB. Held at the University of Bath on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd March, the competition brought together over 1,000 of the nation's best young biathletes.

A Path to the Finals

To earn their place at this highly anticipated event, our pupils showcased outstanding performances in qualification events held in the autumn of 2024, where an astounding 32 ºìÐÓÊÓƵ athletes secured invitations to compete amongst the top scorers in their age groups—an incredible achievement for each individual.

Outstanding Performances

The competition required our young sports stars to excel in both swimming and running, with Year 4 pupils tackling a 25m swim and 400m run, while those in Years 5-8 took on a 50m swim and 800m run against the nation's strongest competitors. The state-of-the-art facilities at the University of Bath, combined with the adrenaline of finals day and sheer determination, enabled our athletes to achieve phenomenal personal best times.

A huge congratulations goes to Morgan in Year 5, who secured 1st place in the Girls' Year 5 category, successfully defending her title from Year 4—an extraordinary accomplishment!

Further accolades include William and Harry achieving second place nationally in the Boys' Year 4 and Year 7 categories, along with a further six ºìÐÓÊÓƵ athletes achieving top ten finishes.

These incredible individual performances contributed to team successes, with the Year 4 and Year 7 boys finishing 1st nationally and the Year 5 girls securing 2nd place.

Head of Sport, Andy Morris, expressed his pride in the team, stating, “We are beyond proud of our biathletes and thrilled to see them competing at this level. This is a tremendous achievement and a testament to their hard work and dedication.”

Beyond their biathlon events, pupils also had the chance to experience other aspects of the Olympic Pentathlon, including fencing, laser shooting, and an obstacle course race, making it an action-packed and memorable weekend.

Adrian Floyd, Headmaster, reflected on the team's success, saying, “This year’s Biathlon Finals showcased the incredible talent, perseverance, and sportsmanship of our pupils. Their dedication to training and competition has been truly inspiring. A huge thank you to the parents for their unwavering support, and congratulations to all our athletes for representing ºìÐÓÊÓƵ so brilliantly. We look forward to even more success in the future.”
