Junior Language Challenge Superstars!

Tue 20 Oct 2015

2015 saw 20 pupils enter the National Junior Language Challenge 2015, thereby contributing to the wonderful charity that it supports; onebillion is doing fantastic work helping to provide education opportunities for children in Malawi in particular, with very exciting, incredible results. (For more information about this charity go to ).

This year, we invited Year 2 children to enter for the first time and were delighted that some of them took up the challenge.  4 children made it to the Semi-final, including Riya Sangampalayam (Y3)!  Once again, demonstrating outstanding linguistic skills, Aalaya Sanjeeva and Nithya Sangampalayam won a place in the final, which took place at the Languages Exhibition at Olympia in London last Friday.  There were 1100 children taking part in the first round of this national competition, where they had 3 months to learn Portuguese.  In the Semi-final, the children had two months to learn Mandarin.  For the Final, Aalaya and Nithya were part of a group of 33 finalists who had just one month to learn Arabic!

Working against the clock and the other 31 finalists, they made it comfortably through the heats, into the Grand Final, along with 16 others, which saw Nithya finish in 7th and Aalaya in 2nd place.  From 1100 children, nationally, this is a remarkable achievement!

Congratulations to both girls – we are so, so proud of you!
