National IAPS Success for ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Chess Team

Wed 26 Apr 2023

Congratulations to our team of six pupils who entered the Independent Association of Prep Schools National Chess Championships held at Twickenham Prep School, over the Easter Holidays. Over 70 of the very best young chess players from across the country took part in the two-day event and Benedict (Year 4), George (Year 4), Harry (Year 5), Matthew (Year 5), Seren (Year 6) and George (Year 7) played extremely well. There was a fantastic atmosphere, and it was a pleasure to be able to observe some of their matches. We are delighted that George in Year 7 won the U12 Championship and George in Year 4 came 2nd in the U9 Plate competition.

Adrian Floyd commented, “We have been impressed with the standard of chess that is being played in our extra-curricular club and were delighted to put together a team to compete at the IAPS National Chess Championships. As always, the standard of the competition was extremely high and my congratulations to go to the whole team. By offering a wide variety of extracurricular activities as an integral part of our school day we give each child the opportunity to develop confidence, leadership and teamwork sills and were delighted that our pupils took every opportunity to socialise with pupils from other competing schools.”
