At just 15 years old, Zac Knight (OH Class of 2024) has completed an extraordinary fundraising challenge, running from Leatherhead to Manchester before cycling all the way back to Reigate, a journey of more than 500 miles, to raise vital funds for Young Epilepsy.

Young Epilepsy holds a special place in Zac’s heart. Diagnosed with epilepsy in January 2020, Zac and his family received invaluable support from the charity, helping them to understand his diagnosis and how to continue living their lives. Since then, Zac has been determined to give something back and raise awareness of the charity’s work supporting children, young people and families affected by epilepsy.

This was not Zac’s first incredible fundraising challenge. In 2024, aged just 12, he ran at least a mile every day for 172 consecutive days, dedicating each run to one of the 172 children attending St Piers School and College, which is run by Young Epilepsy.

From 1st January to 20th June, Zac ran before school, after school, during Form Time, on school trips, in the dark and in the rain. His remarkable commitment raised an astonishing £75,000 for Young Epilepsy.

But Zac was ready to go even bigger.

On 6th August, he set off from his home in Leatherhead and began running towards Manchester – home of his beloved football team, Manchester United. After reaching the city, Zac then got on his bike and began the long journey south, eventually arriving back at Old Reigatians Rugby Club on 22nd August.

Over 17 days, Zac pushed himself through the inevitable highs and lows of such an immense physical challenge, covering more than 500 miles in total. He documented the journey on social media, giving his growing community of supporters an honest glimpse of the determination, resilience and sheer hard work required to keep going.

To take on – and complete – a challenge of this scale at just 15 years old is truly remarkable.
