Pupils raise over £5,000 to provide clean water for more than 330 people in developing communities

Tue 14 May 2019

On Friday 3rd May all children from Rainbow Nursery to Year 8 participated in a sponsored walk around the school grounds to raise money to provide clean water for people in developing communities. In a buzzing atmosphere children walked in their School House 'families' with older and younger pupils holding hands and singing whilst walking the course.

Pupils carried water in recycled containers with them, representing the women and children in other countries who have to walk miles to collect water, which is often not even safe to drink.

The walk was organised and promoted by the WE Ambassadors, pupils that lead the School’s programme of active citizenship campaigns. In a whole school effort, younger children were given blue bracelets for participating, made by the older children and the Props Club made the banner.

Every £15 raised gives a person in the developing world clean water for life. The children hoped to raise enough money to provide this for 100 people and were delighted to smash their £1,500 target. A huge thank you to all sponsors, including Virgin Money Giving who agreed to double the money raised, bringing the total to over £5,000 including gift aid.

Pupils at The ºìÐÓÊÓƵ are encouraged to become active citizens and understand how they are empowered to change the world.  WE is a not for profit organisation that supports active citizenship in schools by providing free educational resources for teachers and a calendar of action campaign ideas.
