We were blown away by the talent, poise, bravery, and teamwork of our dancers as they performed in Spotlight, a vibrant celebration of dance and creativity at The Leatherhead Theatre. From show-stopping Ballet to high-energy Acro, powerful Modern to uplifting Street Dance, over 200 performers, aged 3 to 18, dazzled the audience in two jam-packed shows. It was particularly pleasing to see so many Old Hawthornians on stage, continuing their training with ºìÐÓÊÓƵ of Dance after moving on to their senior schools.
The curtain rose to an explosive opening as our talented Year 4 and Year 5 Modern dancers performed Revolting Children from the West End hit Matilda. They danced and sang with such energy and passion that the audience was hooked from the first note.
Next came the show-stealers—our youngest stars from Pre-School. Performing to Dr. Beat and Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid, these little ones brought pure joy and charm to the stage, capturing the hearts of everyone in the theatre.
Many of our Year 1 and Year 2 performers appeared in five separate dances—a remarkable achievement at such a young age. Their ability to remember routines, entrances, and stage positions was nothing short of exceptional.
Our senior dancers wowed the audience with sophistication, elegance, and style. Their polished performances showcased years of dedication and hard work in the studio. It was particularly heartwarming to see them supporting the youngest performers in their dances.
The show concluded with a breathtaking finale to Everybody Dance. The atmosphere on stage was electric as the entire cast joined together, confetti cannons erupted, and the audience burst into applause. It was a moment of pure joy and celebration!
Our thanks must go to Tanya Greenwood, Head of Dance at ºìÐÓÊÓƵ of Dance, Alex Curran, Senior Dance Instructor, and all of the other dance teachers for the time and energy they put into choreographing and organising such a wonderful event.
