A huge congratulations to the eight members of our Hammerheads Swim Squad who competed in the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) National Swimming Finals on Saturday 8th June, at the prestigious Olympic pool at the London Aquatic Centre.
Over the course of the spring term, the IAPS Swimming championships saw over 4,600 children from 400 schools across the country competing in 35+ qualifying galas for a place in the finals. The fastest 1,500 swimmers were invited to the national finals last weekend, to compete in front of 3,000 spectators.
Our Year 6 Boys' team qualified in second place for both the Medley and Freestyle Relays, and we were absolutely thrilled that on the day Harry, Alex, Oscar and Guy swam nine seconds faster in their Medley Relay and seven seconds faster in their Freestyle Relay, to come first place nationally in both races. As if this were not enough, Harry, Alex and Oscar also swam in individual events, coming second nationally in breaststroke, fifth nationally in backstroke and tenth in butterfly respectively. With these amazing results our Year 6 boys’ team won their age group trophy, which they shared with Millfield School.

Our Year 7 Girls' Medley Relay team qualified in nineteenth position for the finals. Swimming in the afternoon session, Elodie, Mia-Rose, Jess T and Jess K secured a five second personal best and came eleventh in the country. A wonderful way to finish off our most successful IAPS National Swimming Finals yet!

These results are the culmination of years of training several mornings a week before school, and the dedication of these children (and their parents) cannot be underestimated. A huge thank you must go to Tina Cornelius, our Hammerheads Swim Squad coach, for her tireless work with the children.
