Following the success of our our U11 Boys' Relay team at the IAPS National finals last weekend, Guy, Harry, Alex and Oscar found themselves back in the pool, competing in the English Schools’ Swimming Association (ESSA) National Primary Schools Relay Finals. This event was in held Sheffield on Saturday 15th June at the famous Ponds Forge swimming pool. Our team were representing the Southeast of England, having already competed in the Surrey and then the South East qualifying events. Schools competing came from as far away as Guernsey, Wales and the South West of England.
The team's first event was the Medley Relay, where success in the heats qualified the boys for the A final. With a two second lead, our team came first with a faster time than in the heat, proudly receiving a trophy, shield and four gold medals. Next up was the Freestyle Relay; the boys did really well in the heat swim and once again qualified for the A final. It was a close race with the first three schools finishing within one second of each other. Our team gained bronze medals and another shield, once again with a faster time than in the heat.

“The enthusiasm and commitment the boys have shown has been incredible, getting up early twice a week for several years to train before school." said Mrs Leed, Head of Swimming. "The boys showed real resilience, coming straight from their week long Year 6 Residential trip and holding their nerve to swim so well on such a big occasion, they should be incredibly proud of their achievements.”
Headmaster, Adrian Floyd commented, “My hearty congratulations go to Guy, Harry, Alex and Oscar, four national medals at two differnt competitions within the week is incredibly special and we are all proud of their achievemnts.”
