Years 5 to 8 Sports Days

Fri 03 Jul 2020

This week at school we saw Sports Days for Years 5, 6, 7 and 8, with each of the year groups taking part in sporting events on different afternoons. This is the closest many of us have felt to normality and hugely exciting and enjoyable for all of the pupils and staff involved.

Children competed within their bubbles and enjoyed participating in the field events first, moving from one event to the other. Events included the long jump, shot put, cricket ball throw and a target throw. Following a short break we then moved on to the field events, making the most of the space we have with our 10 lane track. All pupils took part in an egg-and-spoon race, skipping race and 100m sprint, with equipment wiped down ready for the next enthusiastic competitor. Some pupils chose to run in the 800m race and proved that they have kept up their fitness levels incredibly well during lockdown.

It is traditional to make Sports Day competitive and results for each event were recorded and points awarded. The results for each House will be collated and the winning House announced at the end of term. Whilst this competitive aspect has always been an important part of Sport at The ºìÐÓÊÓƵ, it was very clear that this week the pupils and staff were content with simply being outside, having fun and taking the opportunity to enjoy being together again. The ice lollies at the end also put a smile on everyone’s faces!
