Celebrating Achievement at Prize Giving

Wed 08 Jul 2026

Pupils and families from Years 3 to 8 came together for our annual Prize Giving, a wonderful occasion to celebrate the achievements, talents and contributions of our pupils.

We were delighted to welcome our guest speaker, Lieutenant Colonel James Shaw LVO, who served as an officer in the Grenadier Guards and British Army from 2003 to 2025 and was responsible for arranging the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. Speaking about the importance of teamwork, he shared valuable insights from his remarkable career and reminded pupils of what can be achieved when people work together towards a common goal.

More than 90 prizes and awards were presented during the afternoon, recognising pupils across every aspect of school life — from demonstrating our Core Values and showing initiative, to making progress and excelling in individual subjects. Congratulations to all of our award winners.

There was also a special award for Alex, who achieved something many Hawthornians have attempted over the years: hitting a boundary with the ball going straight through a window at Pendell Court! To mark the occasion, he was presented with the framed Pendell Court window pane, complete with a cricket ball-shaped hole — a rather fantastic memento of his achievement!

One of the most memorable parts of the occasion came from members of our leaving Year 8, who reflected on their time at The ºìÐÓÊÓƵ. Sharing favourite memories and thanking the School for the support they had received throughout their journeys, their reflections were a fitting reminder of all they have achieved. Speaking so confidently in front of such a large audience, they also beautifully demonstrated the depth of character, confidence and self-assurance they have developed during their time at the school.

The celebrations were interspersed with lovely musical performances from some of our talented musicians, as well as the Senior Choir, providing some wonderful moments throughout the afternoon.

Prize Giving also marked an important moment of transition for our pupils. The new Year 7 pupils, preparing to begin their journey in the Upper School, received their coveted red-collared blazers, denoting their new seniority within the school. Our new Year 8 pupils were also presented with their positions of responsibility, ready to take on their leadership roles in the year ahead.

Finally, our current Year 8 pupils led us out of Prize Giving for the last time as ºìÐÓÊÓƵ pupils, leaving as Old Hawthornians. It was undoubtedly a hugely proud and emotional moment for families as we celebrated all they have accomplished and looked ahead to the exciting opportunities before them.

We wish all our leavers the very best of luck as they move on to their new schools. Take everything you have learned, the friendships you have made and the confidence you have gained with you. We know you are ready for life beyond The ºìÐÓÊÓƵ.
