The U13 Chess team has been involved in two tournaments in recent weeks. The first took place at King’s College School, Wimbledon; this was a qualifying event for the ECF Under 13 Schools Championship with a number of strong schools taking part. As a school we had not competed in this before, but it was great fun and a good learning experience for all. In order to qualify we needed to come in the top 2 and sadly we were a little behind. Oliver Howell and Ashley Horsfall were our top performers on the day.
During half term, we went to Aldro School for an U13 Rapid Play Tournament. After a poor start we staged a magnificent comeback to score an amazing 3 and a half points from our last round. We finished the tournament in 2nd place with five and a half points. The whole team played well but huge congratulations must go to Will Pye who claimed 2 and a half points from his three games.
I would like to thank our loyal band of parents for their invaluable support, providing transport and supervising the team on both of these occasions.
