Extraordinary success at the British Biathlon Championships

Mon 21 Mar 2022

27 ºìÐÓÊÓƵ athletes travelled to the University of Bath last weekend, to compete in the British Modern Biathlon Championships 2021, after the event had been delayed a year due to Covid.

In state-of-the-art facilities, ºìÐÓÊÓƵ athletes competed in age groups from U10 to U13 against the best athletes from across the country, and collectively won four gold, three silver and three bronze medals.

The U10-U12s boys and girls had to run 800m and swim 50m, whilst the U13s had to run 1600m and swim 100m. Each pupil ran and swam extremely well with almost all athletes recording personal best times. We were delighted with the children's determination, strength of character and desire to achieve their best. As it was a national competition, the standard was exceptionally high and ºìÐÓÊÓƵ boys and girls achieved some incredible results, competing in age groups with over 100 athletes.

Congratulations go to all of our athletes, but a special mention must go to Max for claiming the silver medal in the U11s British Biathlon Individual Championships.

ºìÐÓÊÓƵ also experienced significant team success with our U11s Boys' team of Max, Hugo and Harry being crowned overall team national champions, the U12s Boys' team of Alastair, Jacob and Angus who claimed silver medals and the U10 Boys' team of Alex, Harry and Matthew who were placed 3rd.

Pupils were also thrilled to meet James Cook, a British modern pentathlete and the 2018 World and 2019 European pentathlon champion.

Head of Sport, Andy Morris said, “We had a great day of competition, I was so impressed by the sportsmanship and determination shown by all of our girls and boys. A huge well done to all of our athletes, we had a lot of success and medals and enjoyed a fantastic competition experience.”
