Over the course of the spring term, the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) Swimming championships sees 4,600 children from 400 schools across the country competing in 40 qualifying galas for a place in the finals. The fastest 1,500 swimmers are invited to the national finals at the prestigious London Aquatics Centre in June to compete in front of 3,000 spectators. Following nail-biting races back in February, we were absolutely delighted to see an astounding fourteen of our Hammerhead swimmers qualify, 3 for individual races and 6 relay teams.
On Saturday 11th June our team of fourteen competed, gaining some outstanding results both in relay teams and the individual races. Congratulations go to all of our swimmers: Stan, Eddie, Buddy and Archie in Year 8, Jack and Angus in Year 7, Izzy, Isla, Coco, Ines, Maisie, Hugo and Max in Year 6 and Wilf in Year 5.

Special mentions must go to Izzy who swam a personal best and was awarded a silver medal in the Girls' U11 50m Butterfly, beaten to gold by only one tenth of a second.

Brothers, Stan and Wilf came 18th and 15th nationally in their Boys' U13 and U10 Breaststroke swims and the Girls' U11 Medley Relay team, Nessie, Maisie, Izzy and Coco gained the highest relay placing of our 6 relay teams, coming 11th nationally.
This is the culmination of years of training several mornings a week before school and the dedication of these children (and their parents) cannot be underestimated. Thanks and congratulations must also go to our Hammerheads Coach and ex GB Deaflympics Bronze medallist, Tom Baxter, for nurturing this talent.
