Last week pupils visited Caterham School for a special space talk by Helen Sharman who became the first British astronaut when she travelled to the Mir Space Station. Alongside Glennie, Weston and Fiennes, the School is proud to have named our fourth house after Helen Sharman herself, so pupils were incredibly excited to meet Helen and even presented her with her very own Sharman Badge!
Helen enthused the audience with how she was chosen to go into space after responding to a radio advertisement asking for volunteers. Helen then shared details of the experiments undertaken in space and how she and fellow astronauts lived in space, how they put on a space suit and how and where they slept and ate.
Pupils and staff were thrilled to have attended such an inspirational talk and Helen concluded a fantastic afternoon by encouraging pupils to reach for the stars and follow their dreams for their future careers.
