On Monday 26^th June Upper School Sports Day took place for 180 children in near perfect conditions.  With parents and family in close support the day started with a variety of field events: High jump, Long jump, Discus, Shot putt and Ball throw. Lucy H broke the U10 girls Ball throw record and Ronan D took two records in the Shot putt and Long jump. Indigo S gave us a fine display of High jumping, proving it runs in the family with a personal best of 1.50m. The morning concluded with some high quality 800m races and more records falling with Shakila K in the U10 race and a superb run from Dillon Q breaking Old Hawthornian Edward Prickett’s existing record by 7 seconds.

The afternoon began with some exciting hurdling and finished with a real spectacle of parents, pupils and staff racing against each other with Mr Sukhdeo bringing the baton home victorious for the staff team for the final time. More records tumbled with Ronan D adding two more to his tally in the Hurdles and the 4 x 100m Weston relay team, alongside Ben W, Annika P and Laura B.

It really was wonderful to see so many pupils taking part and competing for their houses. Congratulations to Glennie House on winning The Straker Athletics Cup!
