As part of their Minibeasts topic, Reception pupils have been getting up close and personal with one of nature's most fascinating creatures, the spider.
Using an inventive activity to reinforce their knowledge, each pupil recited a previously learned spider fact before throwing a skein of wool to a classmate. The result was a wonderful web built inside their circle, bringing their learning to life in a truly memorable way.
Taking on the role of little scientists, pupils used masking tape and oil to investigate why spiders don't get stuck in their own webs, a question that sparked great curiosity and discussion. They also brought their creativity to the fore, constructing an enormous spider from objects found in their free flow outdoor area and crafting beautiful glitter-coated glue webs.
Learning continued through a range of purposeful play activities, including untangling spiders from webs, searching the sandpit for minibeasts, and hunting for spiders under logs. Each activity added a new layer to the children's understanding, making the whole experience a truly spidery adventure.
We are incredibly proud of the curiosity, creativity and enthusiasm that our Reception pupils brought to the lesson.
