Year 2 enjoy a 'Gunpowder Plot Day'

Fri 01 Dec 2017

This week Year 2 took part in Gunpowder Plot Day as part of their topic ‘Flames and Fireworks’. The children have been learning all about Guy Fawkes and his famous plot, so were excited to take part in an 'off-timetable' day of activities.

The day began in the woods, taking part in a treasure hunt and finding gunpowder barrels to decipher a secret code. The children then ventured inside to make bonfire cupcakes, create Guy Fawkes hats and trial calligraphy using a real feather. In the afternoon, they returned outside to play some team games; transporting the gunpowder into the barrels, attempting to cross the River Thames without falling in and retrieving the gunpowder whilst blindfolded!

The day successfully contributed to the children's knowledge of their current topic and concluded with warm snacks around the bonfire! A special thank you to Mrs Bruce, our Head of Conservation & Outdoor Education Coordinator, for making the day so exciting.
