Congratulations to Sofia, aged ten, for being awarded a place at the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School after successfully completing academic tests in English and Maths as well as the rigorous audition process. As part of the audition, Sofia performed two acting pieces as well as a song and a dance to gain her place at the School. Whilst Sofia loves to learn new dances and particularly enjoys tap dancing, this is a culmination of many years of hard work and dedication with weekly lessons in ballet, tap, modern and contemporary at ºìÐÓÊÓƵ of Dance. When Sofia isn’t dancing she relaxes by sketching birds and trees in her garden.
Sofia has been dancing with ºìÐÓÊÓƵ of Dance since she was six. Her mother, Emma, noted “We were fortunate that Tanya Greenwood, Head of Dance at ºìÐÓÊÓƵ spotted Sofia’s talent aged six, tutoring her and encouraging her in her journey to where she is today.” Tanya commented, “Sofia has been an absolute pleasure to teach, she is always full of smiles and her energy and dedication is to be commended. She worked extremely hard on her audition routines and truly deserves her place at the Sylvia Young Theatre School”.
Sofia trained with ºìÐÓÊÓƵ of Dance to gain a variety of experience on stage. At the age of eight, Sofia was cast in The British Theatre Academy’s productions of Cinderella and Annie, both at the Leatherhead Theatre. Aged nine she appeared in Legally Blonde Jr at the Leatherhead Theatre and Goodnight Mr Tom at Southwick Play House. Following this Sofia was presented an award for outstanding service to The British Theatre Academy.
The Sylvia Young Theatre School is a specialist performing arts school offering excellent vocational and academic education.
